Aug 15 2018 University of Leicester Redevelopment: Expansion of the Award Winning Percy Gee Building Demolition Blog SuperUser Account Percy Gee Building RedevelopmentUniversity of LeicesterUniversity of Leicester Refurbishment We’ve been working with University of Leicester to enable campus development as part of their continued improvement of the student experience. Home to the University’s Students' Union, our works to extend and enhance the eastern wing of the Percy Gee Building will improve and increase the facilities on offer. This project will: - deliver a brand new spacious food court; - provide alternative facilities and high quality multi-use spaces; - establish a direct link between the vibrant atria space already within Percy Gee and the newly completed Fielding Johnson Square. Here's an artist's impression of how the building should look once work is complete: The Percy Gee Building was designed by T. Shirley Worthington to be the central social facility for the University and it was one of the first of several mid-20th Century buildings to have contributed to the character of the campus. The Percy Gee Building is an accessible and thriving multi-purpose building and one of the main hubs of the campus. Between 2008 and 2011, the Percy Gee Building underwent an award winning transformation whereby it was transformed to become a much more suitable home for the University's Students’ Union. A vibrant atria space was created which is now very popular as a social meeting and working space. Several changes to significantly improve the building’s accessibility were also made during this time.
