Paving the Way for a Landmark Development in Nottingham City Centre

Gala Bingo in St Anns, Nottingham closed its doors for the final time on 31st January 2019, after which the building was derelict and in a poor state of repair for a number of months, before was acquired by BSP Holdings.

Subject to planning permission, the property development and investment company aim to redevelop the site into a new residential/student scheme.

The building was first known as Victoria Ballroom on opening in 1929. It then became the Locarno Ballroom before it became a bingo hall.

Adam Watson, investment director at BSP Holdings said "This is an exciting project for BSP Holdings.

"We have the opportunity to create a landmark development in Nottingham city centre. This acquisition shows our confidence in the market and represents a multi-million-pound investment in the regeneration of Nottingham."

The demolition of the building commenced in April 2019 and will be complete during September 2019.

Summary of Works:

- The former Bingo Hall was constructed of two separate structures, resulting in the need to adopt specific reduction methodologies for each structure.

- Removal of the ballroom spring dance floor which dated back to the early 1970s.

- Reduction of the front elevation by hand to ensure full public protection due to the separate structure issue.

- Mechanical demolition of the remaining structural elements including excavation of slab and footings.

- Excavation of the exposed air raid shelter and backfill with crushed arisings generated from the project.

While on site, our Operatives found some memorabilia from when the venue was known as Victoria Ballroom.
